As part of our dinosaur theme we visited the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff. We began our visit with a look around The Evolution of Wales exhibition which took us on an amazing journey from the very beginnings of time to the present day. The story began in space with the Big Bang and took us along a 4,600 million-year journey which brought us face to face with volcanoes, fossils, dinosaurs and wooly mammoths along the way. We found out how life evolved and which dinosaurs roamed the land. Take a look at some of our pictures.
After all that excitement it was time for a spot of lunch with our friends and teachers before our Sounds of the DInosaurs music workshop in the Clore Discovery Centre. First we were able to handle some real dinosaurs bones, we even got to look at some fossilised dinosaur poo! After, we imagined what noises dinosaurs may have made and took part om a sound-based story about a forest at the time of the dinosaurs. What a busy day!
Following our visit to the museum we learnt all about dinosaurs diets. We found out that some dinosaurs were omnivores, some were herbivores and some were carnivores. We learnt about some unusual dinosaurs such as the Yulong and the Saltopus and found out what type of diet they had. We used the laptops to make bar charts to show how many of the new dinosaurs we had learnt about were herbivores and how many were carnivores.
We also learnt ho to make animations using the Smoovie app on our iPads. We worked with our friends and used dinosaur figures to create a short animation. We learnt that we needed to move the dinosaurs in very small step to help our animations flow. We really enjoyed making our animations.
