Another busy day today which started this morning as we were working on Hwb+. We looked at how to reply to a discussion, set up our wiki page, blog, change our theme and avatar. Shocking pink was very popular as was the football theme. We all now what to take some crazy photos for our avatar. We loved working in hub@cwm and we all worked well sharing our knowledge and helping each other. We cannot wait to share hwb+ with our parents so they can see what we have been doing. Our next task is to show the other pupils as we will be assigned to train others in how to use the hwb+ site. This afternoon we had a video conference with our friends at Rabbsfarm Primary School. We had a few technical difficulties but we managed to communicate with each other. It was great to see them and we cannot wait to work more closely with them over the next few weeks.

Well we have had a great day day. We spent this morning at hwb@cwm. We love working in the computing room as we use digital technologies to enhance our learning. Today we began our wikis. We learnt how to log in, create new pages, view other peoples' pages and add comments. It was brilliant. Miss kept an eye on what we were doing as she could see all the wiki pages from her iPad. While we were working this morning, three of our class were competing in 'Quiz Club'. They were against a team from another school. The questions were very hard but one of our teams won. Well done everybody! This afternoon we were introduced to Professor Klueless and Ernie the Electrician. We did lots of research on conductors and insulators and we were then given the challenge to help Ernie find out what materials are conductors and which ones are insulators. We devised an experiment, created a question, formed a hypothesis, worked out how we would present our results and predicted what we think would happen. We are now ready for tomorrow, when we will test our hypothesis. We all think science rocks! Well today there were no stars falling from the sky, no spaceships crash landing or any alien eggs. But we still had a very busy and productive day. In the morning we all competed in the Quiz Club. We had lots of fun answering questions regarding general knowledge and science. It was hard but we tried our best.
In the afternoon we looked at lots of different lightsabers. We had lots of fun looking at the different parts they all had. We then made some initial designs so we could make our own with CAD/CAM. We learnt how to draw in 3d and tried some designs. We cannot wait to start making them! This morning began with Mr Dacey coming to our class to have a look at the video of the second crash landing. We decided that we would ring Rabbsfarm Primary School to see if they had any information that could help us. We compiled a list of questions to wanted to ask them and then telephoned them. We spoke to some pupils in year 5 who answered all our questions. The spaceship was still there, they had an egg like us, they had codes and maps too. In the egg like us they had four letters. Our letters were P X J T and they had R O E C. We spent some time trying to work out what the password could be. We came up with PROJECTX. We tried it as the password in lowercase but it did not work. Then we tried it in uppercase and it opened the website. There was a letter from Alien X which asked us to work together with Rabbsfarm to help the people of the alien's planet. We will now begin the first task so hopefully we can help. We used padlet to evaluate what we had done. Have a look using the link below. We spent this afternoon working on newspaper reports based on what happened this week. We all tried very hard and wrote some wonderful work. We had so much we wanted to say!We then used our twitter board to AfL our work.
Well today was filled with lots of mystery and investigation. We began the day with a list of tasks which we needed to complete in order to solve all our codes. We went to hwb@cwm to do some internet research. We used Google maps to try to pinpoint the exact location of the second map. Our research narrowed the area down to Yiewsley, Middlesex. The map showed three schools in the area, St Matthews C of E Primary, Yiewsley Grange and Rabbsfarm Primary School. Our codes all suggested that we needed eight letters to unlock the top secret website and we only had four. What were we to do? We found out the telephone numbers and email addresses of all three schools and decided that we could email them to see if there had been anything unusual happening in their area. We worked with Year 6 as they taught us what makes a good newspaper report. They were brilliant and explained everything to us. Our newspaper reports are going to rock tomorrow. We completed our sponsored walk in the afternoon and as we finished and were going back to class we had a newsflash that an alien spaceship had crash landed. (Again!) Have a look at the video we were sent. Newsflash of crash landing number two.As you can see the alien spaceship landed in Rabbsfarm Primary School. So we had to ring Mr Dacey and ask him what to do next as he was on a course in Cardiff. Mr Dacey was very shocked and surprised. He wanted to see the video and then we could decide what to do next. Well we think tomorrow is going to be another exciting day.
With trepidation we came to school today wondering what would happen. We had lots to work out today as we had messages that we had to decipher. We started with a Caesar Shift code, as the alien gave us a wheel to help us work out the message. It took as a while but we managed to work out the message. Earthlings we need your help. We have come from a galaxy far away and got lost when we turned left at Vega. We need your expertise to help us get back home but it is not going to be easy. You may need to work with others to get us home. So we know we need to work together but with whom? Other children in the school? Others from outside? As soon as we think we have answered one question we have others to work out! We then had a big surprise. Starlab came from Techniquest. We all went into a giant dome and they told us all about the planets and stars. It was so much fun. We asked lots of questions and we found out that Vega is a star which was in our message. We were then puzzled by one of the messages as it was made up of lots of 0's and 1's. We used our research skills with the internet and found out that it was a code called binary. Binary is used by Computer Scientists. So we found a ascii to binary alphabet and spent some time working out the message. Youneedapasswordforourtopsecretwebsite.Ithaseightletters.Youwillfindthem.. But where will we find them? This is getting more intriguing by the minute...
Well just another day in Cwm or so we thought... We were in assembly this morning when we heard a loud sound coming from outside that sounded like a crash. When we went out there was a spaceship just outside the school wall. We telephoned the police and went out to investigate. We retrieved lots of evidence, including maps, different coded messages and an alien egg. Inside the alien egg was some stars with letters on them. Will they unlock the website we found on the QR code on the side of the cockpit? We looked at the number code and spent some time uncovering its message. We worked hard and found the following message, "Galaxy upon galaxy. Vast, unexplored realms of space. It is a wild, untamed universe we live in. There is much danger here and therefore much need for armies, generals, and soldiers. But along with those who wage war there is also much need for those who explore new worlds and make possible the exchange of knowledge and goods…who bring civilization." Well, we have so much work to do! Lets see what adventures tomorrow brings :o)
Shh! Top Secret - Promise you will not tell anyone else but today was a very strange and unusual day. Miss Howells was not in the class so we rang her but no answer. Then we tried again, and guess what? We woke her up, she was sleeping at her kitchen table. When she got to school she was still in her pyjamas and her hair was everywhere. She told us that she was making a cup of cocoa last night and a bright light came over the kitchen. When she went outside she there was a glowing light. She put it in a jar and watched it until she fell asleep. She brought it to school. What do you think it is? We investigated it all day and tried to come up with what it could be. Was it a star? an alien egg? a cracked diamond? Who knows...
