We have had a fantastic week looking at a book called, "Where the poppies now grow" by Hilary Robinson and Martin Impey.
We looked at the story book and had a discussion about the book, our thoughts and feelings. We have been working on WW1 and looking at the local heroes who never came back from the trenches. We thought the book was great as it brought the story to life and it was easy to understand. We decided to retell the story. Some of us wrote what the story was about while others used iMovie to create a audio visual representation.
We continued our work by reflecting on the three questions on the Tower Of London website . We answered the questions:
We thought very carefully about our responses and shared our thoughts and ideas with the rest of the class.
- Why should we remember WW1?
- Why is 100 years significant?
- How do we want to remember?
We thought very carefully about our responses and shared our thoughts and ideas with the rest of the class.
Today we practised the skills we have learnt and the knowledge we have gained to create our own stories about WW1 in our Big Writing session. We have really enjoyed the book and all agreed that we now want to read, 'The Christmas Truce: The place where peace was found' also by Hilary Robinson and Martin Impey.
