We had a great time on our trip to Llancaiach Fawr this week. We learnt so much about life in the Tudor times and loved meeting the characters around the house. The children asked some fantastic questions and we all had a great time.
12 children from year 3 and 4 attended an athletics festival in Tonyrefail Sports Centre this week. It was a fun event where the children took part in different events such as sprints, javelin and jumping. The children did really well and were great ambassadors for the school.
We have been learning about Tudor medicine. there were plenty of cures back then but most would do more harm than good! If you had no money you would go to a herb wife who's cures included covering your head in cow manure or throwing a cat over your house to cure the plague. Monks would research diseases and pray for you. Apothecaries would make herbs and potions to heal you. The surgeon was only for the rich and they would cut you open, often wearing plague masks filled with strong smelling herbs. We looked at all of these and had great fun finding out the strange cures they came up with.
This week the Playground pals gave a whole school assembly to explain what they have been doing. The children decided on what they wanted to do and what to say. They came up with a Powerpoint with all of their work from their Junior Achievement Award to play in the background. The children told everyone about how they became Playground Pals and the different games that they play. They came up with a role play to help show this and used a rap at the end!
