We drew the leaves ourselves and then painted them. Gavin drew 'hole' patterns in his leaves, similar to the huge leaves in Plantasia.
We worked very hard and had lots of fun.

We enjoyed making tropical flowers, leaves and plants. We designed the plants, for our Big Writing Rainforest. It now looks beautiful, very real with all the stunning colours, plants and animals. The Display helps us with our Volcanic Vocabulary, Caiman Connectives, Orang-utan Openers and Punctuation Pyramid. This week we had a letter all the way from the Amazon Rainforest. Sakima the Spider Monkey wrote to us, giving us information on his family and the rainforest, where he lives. He asked us for help, because his habitat is being destroyed. He asked us to research information about the rainforest, and send a letter in reply. For our Big Write, we all wrote a letter in reply to Sakima. We were very worried about his habitat being endangered, and we want to help.
This week we have been learning about Endangered animals in the Amazon. We researched lots of information. We read Encyclopaedias, read information books and used the Interactive Whiteboard to find out lots more information about the different animals, their food, movement and their habitats. It was great fun and we found out lots to talk about.
This week we went to visit Plantasia in Swansea. It was brilliant. The temperature was extremely hot and humid, as the sun shone very brightly as we walked around. We saw lots of varieties of plants, some of the trees and leaves were enormous. We could hardly believe our eyes! We were very excited to find the huge Kapok Tree. Our class are reading about the Kapok tree at the moment. There were Cotton Top Tamarin Monkeys, a Boa constrictor and Pirañas in the tanks. We read all the information signs ourselves and learned lots of new information, as we walked through the glass pyramid. Hidden in the leaves was a bamboo hut, very exciting. The Green macaw was huge, with beautiful, rainbow, coloured feathers. He was very funny showing us some of his tricks. We were lucky to see the Egyptian tortoises being fed, two fell into the bowl! Finally we enjoyed feeding the huge Carp fish. We had a fantastic day.
