This week we have been learning all about The Gingerbread Man. We have listened to the story, used adjectives to describe the characters, made lost posters and book reviews. We have also been on a Gingerbread Man hunt around the classroom looking for high frequency words. We used Book Creator on the iPads to retell the story too. We have also began to design our own gingerbread men. We looked at lots of different ideas for gingerbread men and decided what we liked. We used these ideas to help us design our very own gingerbread man. Lots of brilliant art work. Well done everybody. We have also enjoyed using the play dough and construction to make gingerbread men and women. Lots of us have used the computer to paint a picture too. Take a look. Here are our storytellers of the week reading a story to their friends. In maths we have been learning our number bonds to 10 (e.g. 5 + 5, 8 + 2). We really enjoyed the number ping pong game. We have also spoken about our goals for the year and began to think how we can achieve them. A fantastic week again Dosbarth Oren, well done! :)

Our first week of school in 2015 has been an excellent one! Everybody has settled back in well and worked their socks off. Da iawn Dosbarth Oren! Our topic for this term is 'We Are Storytellers' and we will be learning about a different fairy tale each week. This week we have been taking part in lots of learning activities about Little Red Riding Hood. In literacy we have learned that every story has a beginning, middle and end. We have made story paths to help us retell a story and we have began to use adjectives to describe a character. We have also been very busy scientists this week. Humpty Dumpty had a problem and needed us to help. He wanted to know which material would make the best crash mat to stop him from smashing. So, we all investigated different materials and looked at some of their properties. We decided what we needed and made a plan of how we could find out the answer. We decided to use eggs and to drop them on to different materials to see if they cracked or not. We all predicted which materials would make a good crash mat and recorded our answers. Everybody enjoyed this experiment!
We had a fantastic time at our Christmas party. We all wore our special Frozen and Minion party hats and we even got to meet Santa! We had some party food, had a disco and played lots of party games. A very busy afternoon. Take a look at our photos.
Since we sent Captain Blackbeard instructions to find his treasure we have been patiently waiting for a reply to say he had found it. Then, this afternoon we got a very exciting letter. Captain Blackbeard had found his treasure and had sent it some of it to us, but because another pirate was looking for it he hid is somewhere in our school. He left us lots of clues to help us find the booty (a pirate word for treasure). We read the clues and scanned the QR codes to find the treasure! We all worked very hard and we finally found the fantastic treasure chest! As it was Christmas Jumper Day we decided to make healthy Grinch Kebabs. We used strawberries, banana, grapes and marshmallows to make our kebabs. They were DELICIOUS!
This week we have all worked extremely hard; especially when practising for out Christmas concert, 'Christmas with the Aliens.' Everybody has learned their parts and the costumes have started to come into school ready for the dress rehearsal next week.
In maths we have been learning to recognise and order coins. We have even started to make an amount. Here is a link to some money games that you can use at home; http://www.ictgames.com/moneyPage.htm We had a very important letter this week from Captain Blackbeard, a pirate who really needed our help. Captain Blackbeard has had his treasure stolen and he wanted us to give him instructions to find it. Some of us used Book Creator to write instructions, we also used Bee-Bots and the Bee-Bot app to give/follow instructions. Da iawn pawb! We were very lucky to have a theatre group in school this week to perform Robin Hood the pantomime. It was fantastic! The week beginning the 10th November we had an eventful week. Monday 10th The whole school entered the school hall to watch The National Assembly at the Tower of London to raise awareness of the Why Remember? school campaign. The assembly was very special and everybody sat beautifully. Tuesday 11th Armistice Day 2014. Today we all got to dress up as children/people from WW1. Everybody looked fantastic. We all took part in the 2 minutes silence and remembered all the brave men/women who risked their lives for us. Later, we had a street party to celebrate the war ending. Wednesday 12th On Wednesday we had special visitors in school, a puppet show! Dosbarth Oren thought it was very funny :) Thursday 13th Here are some of the children making the most of our role play area. Aye Aye Captain! Friday 14th
Children in Need 2014 Today we were allowed to dress up in lots of different colours and we each donated £1 to Children in Need. We had a lovely day and coloured in lots of pictures of Pudsey Bear. Well done everybody. This term our class topic is 'We are treasure hunters'. For homework over half term we were asked to find out as much as we could about pirates! We have a brand new role play area with lots of piratey things, including our very own pirate ship! In literacy, we have been learning about instructions and we followed instructions to make a Jolly Roger. We also had a special visitor in Dosbarth Oren this week! PC Bennett came in to speak to us about people who help us! We learned a lot, including how to ring for help in an emergency. PC Bennett even let us try on some of his uniform! How do you think we look? We all promised to help everybody everyday, so we each had a sticker! Thank you for coming to see us!
On the 24th October we were lucky enough to take part in a class wedding. We were super busy in the run up to the wedding with writing lists, making invitations, making decorations and cakes, and learning all about weddings. We all got dressed up in our beautiful clothes and made our way to St Thomas' church for the ceremony. Lots of parents/grandparents came to watch our special wedding. We were also very lucky because Mrs Edwards brought the school choir to sing, Mia Edwards also sang and Mrs Thomas read a special message from the Bible. After the wedding Mrs Harrison and her fabulous team organised a wedding reception for us! It was brilliant! Take a look at our pictures from the day.
We have all been working hard again this week. On Monday morning we were fantastic gymnasts learning new shapes to make with our bodies. Miss was very impressed! We have learned even more about weddings and looked at the different clothes boys and girls wear to weddings. Lots of us have made wedding cakes out of Lego and coloured, cut and stuck to make brilliant wedding cakes on paper. We have also been very lucky to watch a show 'Your Country needs You' and have Mr Vaughan in our class teaching us about lots of different instruments. Every Friday morning we work in the hwb and this week we have been making birthday cards using 2publish. Everybody worked brilliantly, on laptops, iPads and with Miss Curnell! Da iawn Pawb! :)
We have been very busy in Dosbarth Oren! We all voted on the name of our class bear and Bailey was the winner! Bailey Bear will go on a weekend adventure with someone new, each week - how exciting! We now all know our way around our new classroom and know where things are kept. Lots of fantastic work has been completed this week, da iawn pawb! We have also enjoyed our music lesson with Mr Wells and had a very special visiter, Super Attender! We also had our first lesson in the Hwb. We loved it! Take a look at some of our photos. |
