We began by reading the story of Rama and Sita.
Rama rescued Sita from the terrible Ravana with a little help from some friends. Ravana was an evil man with 10 heads who didn't like Rama and who fought a lot before he was defeated. When Rama rescued Sita and took her home, the villagers were so pleased that they lit special lamps called 'Diva lamps' to light the way home.
We made our own Diva lamps out of salt dough and decorated them. We also made sweets called 'Coconut Barfi' which are made during the celebration. They were VERY sweet and sticky.
We also explored Rangoli patterns and hope to make our own next week.
Check out our pictures and pay particular attention to our Diva lamps as Miss was really proud of us for making these so well.
We will put candles in them and light them next week once they have dried so that we can see the full effects. Keep an eye out for those pictures.
