Last week a very successful week was completed by Dosbarth Aur. Our theme was Matilda by Roald Dahl which we linked to Matilda the musical. We learnt lots of drama techniques and practised a song and dance routine culminating with our fantastic performance of Revolting Children in Fridays assembly. On Monday Mr Madge came in to speak to years 5 and 6 to tell us about when he was down in the mine. Mr Madge worked in three mines Cambrian, Cwm and Wattstown. He started mining at the age of 14 and finished at the age of 54. He helped the people in the Cambrian disaster, his farther worked on the surface so did Mr Madge but as he got older he worked underground. When he was younger he used to get all the muck from the coal.
This week we have been looking at recycling. The eco busters have been doing their job coming around when we are not here to see if all the electricity is off, like the computer should be put on sleep mode when we are not here, also the lights should be off. Today we are going to be writing a persuasive account to persuade people to recycle.
The first week back for Dosbarth Aur began well. They were introduced to their new topic "Black Gold" and were very enthusiastic when researching information on the coal industry. The video footage of "Coal House" provided information to help with their autobiography from the point of view of a miner. Children wrote their autobiographies during their Big Writing session on Friday and were of a very high standard. Swimming lessons also began this week. Children were excited to visit Rhondda Sports Centre and are looking forward to swimming regularly over the next few weeks. The week culminated with a visit from the local fire service who provided essential information on fire safety. An enjoyable week had by all.
