First week back We have had a very busy three days in Year 6. We have already begun our topic for the term "Eldorado" and have decided the names of our groups. We think they are really cool. Mrs Edwards has booked a trip to the Tower of London for us to investigate Sir Walter Rayleigh's explorations. We are all looking forward to this adventure although we are going to have to be up very early!!! We have also started our Science topic on light and have taken advantage of the sunshine this week to go in the yard to measure shadows in preparation for next weeks experiment. This week has also seen us write manifestos for School Council, Eco Committee and Healthy Schools committee voted using our secret ballot box and nominated Head boy and Head girl. We are all very excited to find out the results on Monday. We are now looking forward to all the exciting activities Mrs Edwards has in store for us next week. What a fantastic start to a new term and a new year. What a fantastic trip Dosbarth Aur have had today. We visited Wild Spirit Wakes bushcraft camp near Bridgend. Our leaders were there to greet us at the gate and gave us a warm welcome. The fire was also warm and welcoming when our guides sat us down and told us the events of the day. We began by making wood cookies so leaders would know our names, then split into two groups to complete our challenges. One group was taught the art of making fire and extinguishing it safely while the other worked on den building. We also got to toast marshmallows on the fire and complete a scavenger hunt. Team work and co-operation were the objectives of the day which we succeeded in achieving. We lit our fires and made a waterproof shelter. To quote" this is the best school trip we have ever been on" thanks to bushcraft wales for making our day fun and worthwhile. We shall be back. The Summer Term has got off to a busy start for Dosbarth Aur. Mr Ben Vaughan has assisted with the development of a song involving some of Dosbarth Aur's E Cadets. Some of the children have assisted with delivering our latest History project to Mr Dave Maddox who is also a local historian as well as a judge of the Heritage Award. We are feeling hopeful. In class our theme Castaway has hit off to an excellent start.
