We are back after a lovely half term break and ready as ever to get down to business. With a full term ahead of, Remembrance Day, end of term concerts, choir performances, puppet shows and of course lots of learning along the way, we have come back with a positive attitude to school life! Take a look at what we've been up to for the past week below and don't forget to follow us on Twitter for even more information on what we are getting up to in Dosbarth Arian!
One of this weeks tasks is to create a power-point presentation on the Pop Art artist Roy Lichtenstein. To start this task we decided that the best way to ensure that we reached our Learning Objective was to use Success Criteria. We split ourselves into groups and came up with the crucial steps involved in achieving. We then used these to begin to create the presentation.
We were extremely lucky to have some visitors this week! Shadwell and the gang returned with more lovely stories and funny jokes to help us to learn all about friendship. Thank you Shadwell!!
We have been doing lots of work on doubling and halving this week concentrating on using the partitioning method. We've become that good that we have even made our own step by step guides to help other children with the method!
For our Big Writing last week we were looking at poetry. We discussed how we can make our vocabulary better and decided that a thesaurus was probably the best way in which to find new and exciting words. We spent a session using a thesaurus to find synonyms for firework related adjectives. We also used online thesaurus to compare our results. We will decide on the best synonyms for our poetry later in the week.
WOW!!! We were so proud of everyone's efforts with their half term projects! Miss Phillips set the task of creating something in line with our class novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We were astonished at the imaginative and effective responses that we had! From Minecraft chocolate factories, delicious sweet trees, chocolate rooms made out of real chocolate, Oompa Loompas and Willy Wonkas factory itself we couldn't be more proud of these fantastic projects!
Da iawn to all those children who returned their fantastic homework projects!

Before creating our own firework poetry in Big Writing we looked at a range of firework poetry by other authors. We found aspects we liked and decided on which was our favourite. We shared our reasons with the class and then took on the tricky task of turning the poems into calligrams. We really enjoyed this session and we couldn't wait to use what we'd learned in our Big Writing on Friday!
Time to put all our hard work to good use! Its Big Writing time! W produced some extremely good poetry and even began to use rhyme! Our shapes were very imaginative and our presentation was excellent! Miss Phillips was very proud of us all!
We commemorated Armistice Day this year with some very special guests. We were lucky enough to have a visit off some of the members from the Royal British Legion and our local reverend. We had a two minute silence together and thought about all those people who lost their lives during the war. Our visitors then stayed with us for our street party where we all dressed as evacuees and chatted with our friends about the morning. There was even cake and biscuits! We really enjoyed having the visitors and it really helped us to be thankful for all we have today including our friends and families. Thank you to all that helped it happen.
You may also see our sea of poppies hiding in the far left of the first pictures. Here we each have a poppy that we have painted onto a square tile. We have then wrote our initials in the center. These are surrounding photos and pictures relating to WW1 and our visit to The Tower of London. We think it looks beautiful and think that this is a great way to keep WW1 in living memory.
