This week we have been using our descriptive techniques to help make our writing more interesting. We imagined what the Iron Man would think of all of the strange things he has seen on this planet. We tried to describe everyday things as if we had never seen them before which led to some very interesting similes! We played a game where we had to describe something and the other team had to try and guess what it was.
We tried to make our own Iron men to give us ideas for our Big Writing on Friday. We used different materials and ways of sticking them together. Ad came up with different designs... This week we had another message from the robot 3.14159, he had found a book in the future and could only make out the authors name, Ted Hughes. We Googled it and found out that it was a book called the Iron Man. We read the first chapter and were engrossed! We have completed out first challenge for 3.14159. We completed profiles about ourselves using Microsoft PowerPoint ready to upload onto his website. For Big Writing this week we wrote autobiographies including plenty of information about us. We're all looking forward to the next challenge! Something very strange happened today. An unusual capsule fell from the sky, inside was a small metal robot. We found out that it was a memory stick, but then things just got stranger. On the stick there was a video from the future! It seems a robot called 3.14159 has lost his creator when travelling through time and wants our help. We had to decode his secret message that told us that we had to carry out tasks to help him. We can't wait to start! Just another day at Cwmclydach Primary School!! I hope you have all had a great summer and are excited to start back! We've had a really busy week settling in and writing character descriptions. I see it's going to be a very productive year! Something very strange has been happening in our class this week. All of our pencils keep mysteriously disappearing. Mr Curtis heard some strange music coming from the school and when we went for a look, we found a message from an explorer. Hugo Harrington had found an entrance to some mysterious tunnels under the school. Mr Dacey found an old map in the back of his cupboard, but where did these tunnels lead and who or what lives down there? We hope to write a mystery story to try and solve these problems. We have loved looking at the evidence and thinking of solutions to these strange mysteries. We had a problem this week, Great Aunt Gladys needed help picking out presents for her nieces and nephews. We had to help her by choosing gifts and adding up the totals using stacking. We used trial and error to make sure the total didn't go over Aunt Gladys' total. We also worked out the change we would have with the different combinations. Year 5 and 6 had the honour of taking part in a tag rugby festival at Cardiff Arms Park this week. Despite the heavy rain, the children did really well, playing 5 games each and winning more than we lost. It was year 5's first tournament but they quickly picked it up with TJ being star of the match! Year 6 did equally well and thoroughly enjoyed. They all acted as great ambassadors for the school and we got a trophy for all of our hard work. |
