We have been looking at measuring using grams and milligrams. Yellow group were given a potato each and needed to balance the scales using different weights. We had great fun trying to solve the problems.
We have been looking at writing adventure stories this week. We started off by looking at the features of an adventure story and what makes a story exciting. During Big Writing we wrote our exciting stories. A few weeks ago, students from University is Wales came in to test our children on PE skills. They were tested on their agility, balance, endurance and throwing skills. Out of 835 children tested throughout RCT, our very own CJ and EP came in the top 10% earning them a place on the More Able and Talented Little Champs club. Well done boys!! We have been looking at how sugar effects our bodies. We looked at what foods have sugar in them and which have the highest amount. We looked at the labels and measured out how much sugar each of them had. We were really surprised at how much some of them had, especially the coke! Me Curtus found some aliens in his back garden. They were made out of blocks and each block had a different total. We investigating making different shape and sized aliens using our addition skills to help us. We really enjoyed investigating these strange creatures. This week we have looking at a poem by Brian Moses called Walking with my Iguana. Brian performs the poem using bongos and we found it very funny. We made our own versions of the poem. Some were called Crawling with my Tarantula, Swimming with my Pirhana, Jogging with my Gorilla and Skipping with my Python. We then performed our poems using the bongos. We tweeted Brian Moses and he retweeted our pictures! This week we have looking at a poem by Brian Moses called Walking with my Iguana. We won all of our games and got to the final but unfortunately lost 9-11 in the final. Some fantastic rugby skills shown, with FP winning a rugby ball for her skill and sportsmanship. Today we had the chance to get up close and personal with some feathery friends. We had a visit from the Bird Of Prey Centre and learnt lots about these beautiful creatures. As this week is friendship week, we decided to make some new friends. We spent the afternoon in Dosbarth Coch and we each got buddied up with a new friend. We read the story of the rainbow fish and made colourful scales witha sentance about what makes a good friend. We also got to know each other and find out about our little buddies. We had loads of fun and can't wait to see our new friends around school. In science this week we investigated parachutes. We needed to first find out what makes a good parachute. We decided that our brave volunteer 'Bob' needed to reach the ground as slowly as possible so designed a test to which material would let Bob fall a set distance in the slowest time. We then used different materials to make parachutes and tested them by throwing Bob off the wall on the yard! |
