Another super busy yet exciting week in Dosbarth Arian! Take a look what we have been up to this week.
We started the week with an investigation into shape. On Monday we looked to sort a range of polygons by looking at sides and symmetry. We learned how to sort by looking at parallel and perpendicular lines. We also made a bank of vocabulary to help us throughout the week.
During our Reading Power session this week we decided to look at comic strips. We loved looking at the strips and making up our own stories behind the pictures. We used speech bubbles, thought bubbles and onomatopoeia to complete the comic strips. We then shared our comic strips with each other. We learned that we all infer in different ways, no two comic strips were the same!
During guided reading time this week we have been doing lots of different activities. We've enjoyed up leveling our Big Writing from the previous week using our success criteria and Miss Phillips' comments to help us. Weve also been reading our group books and discussing the content. We've particularly enjoyed playing boggle in our groups, finding as many words as we can in one minute
Continuing in our study of sound, this week we investigated how pitch changes. We did this by using chime bars. Miss Phillips posed the question 'Which chime bar is highest pitched and why?' After investigating and discussing we came to the conclusion that it must be down to the size of the chime bar! Da iawn Dosbarth Arian! Excellent investigative skills!
During computing this week we continued to look at blogging. In order for us to write our first blog we decided to discuss the topics that we would like to write about. We decided that 'All About Me' would be the best blog to start with. Keep an eye out for our first blogs next week!
So... after finding the mystery time capsule last week and discovering that it was from the 1960's it was time to decide what aspects of the era we would like to study. We had so many ideas!
We thought that one of the first aspects we should take a closer look at were the dances people enjoyed during that time. We used the internet to find out the names of the dances and then learned how we could do them too! We loved showing our friends what we had learned and we had lots of fun performing to the music of the 1960's!

We were extremely lucky this week to have Quantum Theater pay us a visit. They put on a fantastic show that we thoroughly enjoyed and helped us learn lots more about WW1.
We are nearly half way through our class novel 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' so we thought that this would be a good time to get cooking! We loved following the recipe taking note of the language and how it was set out ready for our Big Writing session on Friday.
First for the making of the mixture...

Now for the decorating! Rather a messy task! :0)
Onto our Big Writing. Some fantastic recipes this week! Human pizzas, Gooey Stooey and Sumores were just a few of the imaginative and interesting recipes that we came up with. All using imperative verbs and time openers. Ardderchog pawb!
Time to get our thinking hats on! Following the food theme this week we got to work on a chocolate problem. Miss posed the problem and left us to decide which method we would like to use to solve it. We used multi-link, pencil and paper and whiteboards to work out how to make two chocolate bars of the same size from the broken pieces. After lots of hard work and collaboration we cracked it! We decided that using multi-link was the best way to solve the problem.
Time for some Welsh! We have been working hard during our Helpur Heddiw sessions to talk about our hobbies. Today it was time to put it into writing. We used sentence strips to create muddled up sentences and then helped each other to put them into the correct order. Lots of teamwork was needed to complete the task and we all worked very hard to help each other.
Another great week to be proud of in Dosbarth Arian this week! Have a fantastic weekend everyone! :0))
