We have been hard at work this week as usual learning about Victorian mining. First we looked into a commissioners report from 1842 and discussed the facts. We also looked into a National Census from one year later. We discovered that the dates on the census did not match up to the report!
WHY?
Well... It took some discussion but we worked out that it was because the miners family's were so poor that they had to rely on the money that their children brought home! Can you imagine that?!

We've been getting up to some great things in maths this week! We've been looking at decimals and making sure we know exactly what each digit is worth. We've also been estimating, to do this we learned to round to the nearest 10,100 and 1000! Take a look at the activities we've been carrying out to help us learn.
We've got a new Guided Reading timetable with brand new activities! This week we had lots of interesting things to do, including, a new game called Boggle Flash, an online Welsh game called Pwy ydy pwy? (Who is who?) and we continued with our reading groups and up leveling. We can't wait to see what different activities next weeks Guided Reading brings us!
In art this term we are studying Josef Herman. To begin our study we decided to find out about his life and artwork. We found out lots of interesting information, including the fact that he escaped during WWII!
During our assembly this week we kept on the theme of Positivity. We started to learn the song 'The Climb' and discussed the meaning behind the lyrics. We then discussed with our friends what we would like our goals to be for 2015. We wrote these on post-it notes and stuck them on the wall to share with our friends.
Good luck to everyone! We are all here to support you in reaching your goals for 2015! :0)

Back to mining.... After we had looked into the census and commissioners reports we were interested in finding out more. We decided on four headings that we would base our research around.
- What was it like in the mine?
- How were the mines run?
- What jobs did children do?
- Why was coal so important?
Its time for MOLECULE MADNESS!!This week we were finding out about solids, liquids and gases. First we learned a rap which told us the properties of these. Then we went on to name and write down as many of each as possible. After we were certain that we knew what solids, liquids and gases were we started talking about what they were made of. We turned ourselves into molecules and practiced being different materials. Matter definitely matters!! :0))
Time to put our learning into practice! In Big Writing this week our objective was to write a report all about mining. We used all of our research from the week and made sure that we were using our success criteria to help us achieve the learning objective. We even used our new Aurasma display boards to help us if we needed a little help with our VCOP.
Well done to all of Dosbarth Arian this week. Its been a busy one and you have all been brilliant! I'm super proud of you! Da iawn i ti! :0))
