Another busy but excellent week in Dosbarth Arian this week with lots of fun learning! Take a look at what we've been up to.
We were off to a energetic start to the week with Mrs Peppin! We loved learning about Gum Boot dancing and trying out our own Gum Boot sequences!
We started our Maths this week by learning how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000. We had great fun using our write on tables and extending our learning using decimals and formal methods of addition.
Once we had mastered dividing and multiplying by 10, 100 an 1000 it was time to move onto multiples. We practiced our times tables and played tables ping pong as a class before we went onto our group and individual tasks. Six Bells loved playing 20 questions in their group trying to find out what their friends 5 digit number was and Llwynypia worked with Mrs Dickenson to find common multiples. The rest of us tried using venn diagrams to record different multiples. We all enjoyed our tasks and felt we'd learned lots!
To end our maths this week we carried on using venn diagrams to categorise mathematical language. In groups we had to decide whether the language would entail: Multiplying, dividing, adding or subtracting. We found that some of the language could mean more than one thing so we had to think about how we could show this. If we were not sure on placing any of the cards we discussed the term with a partnering group. Some of the language was quite tricky but we worked well together to agree on the result.
We started our week with our Reading Power topic 'TRANSFORM'.We recapped on what we already know and watched a video of 'ordinary Marys Extraordinary Deed. We were amazed by how many people could be effected by one good deed! I wonder what we could do to have this effect?
Big Writing this week was all about Explanatory texts. We started the week by looking at the water cycle and scanning for key information in the text.
Next we wanted to make sure we knew all the topic vocabulary we needed for our writing on Friday. We discussed which vocabulary we may need and used dictionaries to ensure we understood each term.
On Thursday it was time to get hands on! We thoroughly enjoyed making collages out of different materials to show the water cycle.
By Friday we were more than ready to write our own explanation of the water cycle. Everybody did great especially the children who usedcursive in Big Writing fir the first time! Da iawn pawb! :0)
Take a look at the slideshow below to see the exciting activities that we took part in.

In science this week we were looking at evaporation. We planned an investigation to answer the question..
How can we speed up the process of evaporation?
Once we had discussed and planned what we needed to do, how we would make it a fair test and what our variable would be it was time to put our plan into action. We worked in groups to measure 50ml of water and labelled these in cups. We then put them in four different locations to find out if any of these would speed up the evaporation process.
On top of the bookcase.
On the radiator.
On the window sill.
In the staff room.
What is your prediction? Come back to next week to see our results.
