We had so much fun coming to school in our waky costumes to raise money for Children in Need on Friday. We showed lots of care and understanding when we talked about the children that the charity support and we loved listening to this years Children in Need single. The children worked really hard designing symmetrical pyjamas for Pudsey and also used augmented reality to bring their Pudsey colourings to life.

We have been working really hard writing firework poems using alliteration. Here are a couple of examples.
All the children looked wonderful yesterday in their WW1 outfits. Following our remembrance day service we had a great time at our school street party with the Poppy Legion veterans. Have a look at some of our photos. FirewroksThe children worked really hard last week working on some firework alliteration. They had some great ideas including: jumping jewels sparkling stars curling colours booming bangs racing rockets fabulous fireworks We used Wordle to present ideas. They looked great! We really enjoyed making edible sparklers and worked really hard to write instructions so other people would be able to make and enjoy them too. Have a look at some of our pictures. Click on this button to answer some questions about our mystery. Remember to read the questions carefully.
We worked really hard last week creating posters to let people know about this mystery. We also had some really useful information from Detective Price about six suspects. To help start to solve the mystery we created some character profiles to show what they may look like and made wanted posters whilst we were in the hwb on Friday. Now we have a bit more information to help us get closer to finding out what has happened to Princess Alexandra's jewels. Dear Dosbarth Glas,
Thank you for creating those fantastic posters last week, they will really help to let other people know about this mystery. Below you will find an audio file containing some new information. Listen very carefully to it as it contains some really important information! Will it help you eliminate some of your suspects? Could you please interview the remaining suspects? Please make sure you record your interviews, we will need to keep them as evidence. Good luck and let me know what you find out. Yours sincerely, Detective Price. Have a look at this QR code. We have some important work to do! It's time we put all we have learnt about detectives so far this term to good use! Where are those jewels? Let's help Detective Price find out! Our theme this half term has been 'TIme Travellers', we have travelled all the way back in time to the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous period to learn all about dinosaurs. Herbivores or carnivores? We have really enjoyed learning all about the different types of dinosaurs and their unusual names. Paleontologists have sorted dinosaurs into lots of different groups, they have used different criteria for their groups such as their hip joints and skull shape. We decided to sort our dinosaurs based on their diet. We learnt that some dinosaurs only eat meat and these are called carnivores, some only eat plants and these are called herbivores and some eat both meat and plants which are called omnnivores. We sorted images of dinosaurs into the correct groups. Once we had done this we decided our own criteria to sort different types of dinosaurs. Some of us sorted them by their height, their number of claws or their tail length. fossilsScientists have found fossils all over the world. Fossils are formed over thousands of years. Once an animal has died it's bones can become squashed under layers and layers of earth, rocks and clay which turns the bone into a type of rock which we call a fossil. We used clay to make fossil imprints using shells and dinosaur figures. It was a lot of fun. Our saltopus experimentA Saltopus was a small carnivore that lived in the late Triassic period. It ate insects and small animals. We created our own Saltopus paintings using a science experiment to create a texture for his skin. We drew our Saltopus and then painted it with watery paint. Once we had done this, we sprinkled salt crystals all over our picture, we then waited for it to dry. When our pictures had dried we scraped off the salt to see what had happened. The salt had left light and dark patches all over our dinosaur. We found out that this is because salt absorbs water, this meant that the paint was very dark around all of the salt crystals and lighter else where because the salt had pulled all the watery paint towards it. How big was a triceratops footprint? We worked in groups to put together pices of a puzzle to create a life size Triceratops footprint. Once we had finnished we measured and recorded it's length and width. We compared our own feet with the Triceratops' foot, our feet looked tiny! DIno animationsWe used the ipads to create animations using dinosaur figures. We realised that each time you move the dinosaurs to take the next picture they only had to move a very tiny bit. We decided that our animations looked even better if we had something in the background of our shot that didn't move. We worked in pairs and took it in turns to be the person altering the set or the photographer. Our animations looked great when we had finnished! What's your favourite dinosaur? We have been learning about data handling in school this half term. We have spent some time learning how to gather and read informtion in a bar chart. In our groups we made bar charts about things we are interested in. Lots of us choose to make graphs about our favourite dinosaurs. We filled in our bar charts using information we gathered from other members of the class. The Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Spinodon were very popular. Slime timeWe had great fun yesterday learning all about polymers and cross-linkers in our slime workshop. We mixed pva glue, paint and the cross-linker together to make our lovely slime. After we had all made our slime we had 'Slime Olympics'. We had competitions to see who could blow the biggest bubbles in their slime, who's slime could stretch the furthest and who's slime could bounce the highest. All about our bodiesToday we learnt all about how to keep our bodies healthy. We looked at x-rays of different bones in the body and matched them up to the outside of our body. Then we helped to work out why Dilwyn the dragon wasn't feeling well. All of his bones were fine and his heart was beating strongly so we knew it had to be something else. We worked out that Dilwyn had been eating too many unhealthy foods. We made him a heathy lunch to help him feel better. |
